Magpies Trivia Night Fundraiser!

Magpies Trivia Night!

Benefit night to assist magpie of 20+years Neil Ward who is unwell.

The Magpies Trivia Night held Saturday 27th February was MC'ed by champion promoter Eugene "Don King" Simpson who introduced proceedings as a world championship bout in tones deserving of Madison Square Garden billing. The top room of Ourimbah RSL was packed almost to capacity with a great turnout of magpies for such a worthy cause.

Eugene did a marvellous job with tough questions in each category and enough variety to allow most people to contribute (always a tough combination). An early lead was established by defending champs 7th Grade White (aka The Coathangers) but consistency from "Cornish can't catch" and Buster's 1st Grade squad teams saw them hunted down with clever late deployments of the batting power plays, er sorry, I meant the joker rounds.

In the end, Cornish Can't Catch got up over 1st Grade for the win, but Buster raised the stakes by donating 1st Grade's prize money back into the fundraising purse and put the winners under moral pressure to do likewise - and in true Magpies fashion they did so, with the wonderful result being almost $750 raised for Neil Ward and his family. We hope he recovers and gets back on the park soon. Well done to all who attended!

p.s. some pics to come . . .

* All profits raised on the night will be donated directly to Neil Ward and wife Michelle and their four lovely young daughters. Neil has been a magpie for over 20 years now and played all games up till Christmas. However he was forced out of cricket again earlier this year when he fell ill once more. We hope that this time his recovery will be swift and full and look forward to seeing him back at Sohier once more.
